Edward W. Jacobs,
Retired Buffalo police lieutenant
Jan. 31, 1938—May 2, 2009

Edward W. Jacobs of Cheektowaga, a retired Buffalo police lieutenant, died Saturday in Buffalo General Hospital. He was 71.

Born in Niagara Falls, Mr. Jacobs served in the Navy from 1955 to 1959 and in the Navy Reserve from 1960 to 1963.

He joined the Buffalo Police Department in 1966 and served in the former Hertel, Michigan and Fillmore stations. He was appointed detective in 1983 and lieutenant in 1988. He also had served in the former Internal Affairs Division and the Sex Offense Section.

Mr. Jacobs, who received several letters of commendation during his career, retired in 1996 from the 911 Communications Department.

He earned his associate’s degree from Hilbert College in 1976 and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Buffalo State College in 1977.

During his retirement years, he enjoyed frequent travel.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, the former Mary R. Jurewicz; two daughters, Leslie and Nicole; and a son, Stephen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a. m. Monday in St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 5271 Clinton St., Elma. Prayers will be said at 8:45 in Urban-Amigone Funeral Home, 1024 French Road, Cheektowaga.

Of Buffalo, NY, May 3, 2009, beloved husband of the late Gay (Fisher) Essek; loving father of
David A. (Jacquelyn), Kathryn R., Daniel J. (Donna), and Stephen M. Essek; dear brother of
the late Victor Essek Jr.; cherished grandfather of Elizabeth, Benjamin, Rachel, Mariam, Charity and Sarah.

Of West Seneca, entered into rest May 7, 2009. Beloved husband of Marian (nee
Alonge) Lafferty; devoted step-father of Natalie (Louis) Metauro, Cheryl McCoy and
Michael (Dawn) Scarpello; cherished grandfather of Nicole, Christina, Alyssa, Bryan, Morgan and Gina; adored great-grandfather of Brooke and Bryce; loving son of the late Thomas and Theresa (nee Stanton) Lafftery; dear brother of Susie (Paul) Michaels, Jack (Charlene) Lafferty and James J. Lafferty; also survived by relatives and many friends.

Relatives and friends may visit the LOMBARDO FUNERAL HOME (Southtowns Chapel), 3060 Abbott Rd. near Lake Ave. on Saturday from 7-9 PM and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mr. Lafftery was a Marine veteran of the Vietnam War and a retiree of the Buffalo Police Dept.

HAUPTMANN - Edward G. May 18, 2009, suddenly. Beloved husband of the late Doris
M. (nee Ayer) Hauptmann; dearest father of Elaine M. (Thomas) Mayers and Lois L.
(George) Phillips; dear grandfather of Kevin (Nicole) Mayers, Brett (Lisa) Mayers, Julie
(Tom) Butler, Robert (Jen) Dundon and Christopher (Maria) Dundon and eight
great-grandchildren; son of the late William and Katherine  (nee Kiefhaber)
Hauptmann;brother of the late Frederick Hauptmann.

Mr. Hauptmann was a retired Buffalo Policeman after 37 years of service, a member of the Erie

grandfather of Robert J. Sartini, Jr.; brother of the late Odo A. Sartini and Mary A. Nenni;

HORVATIS - Frank E. Of Oceanside, CA., formerly of Buffalo, unexpectedly, entered into rest
September 2, 2009. Beloved husband of Joan (nee Malczewski) Horvatis; devoted father of
Timothy (Karen) Horvatis, Nancy Horvatis and Lynn (Frank) Bonare; cherished grandfather of
Kaitlyn, Brianna and Andrew; loving son of the late Frank and Mary Horvatis; dear brother of Rita (late Ron) Becht and James Horvatis; also survived by relatives and friends.

Relatives and friends may visit the LOMBARDO FUNERAL HOME (Southtowns Chapel), 3060 Abbott Rd. near Lake Ave. on Saturday, October 10th, for a gathering in Frank's memory form 10:00-12 Noon. Memorial Service immediately follows.

Frank was a retired Buffalo Police Officer with 25 years of service and also served 10 years as a Special Agent with the Department of Defense Investigative Services in Oceanside CA. He was a veteran of the Air National Guard in Niagara Falls N.Y.

Lauren (Matthew) Dick and Erin (Ryan Zarazinski) Carcaci; loving grandfather of
Chynna Fields, Cerina and Addison Herberger; step-grandfather of Ally and Tristan
Dick; son of Yvonne Engle and the late Donald Herberger; brother of Donna (late
George) Snyder and Yvette Ford; also survived by nieces and nephews.

Pasquale Bonito
Sept. 19, 1940—Nov. 4, 2009

Pasquale Bonito, who served as a Buffalo police officer for 33 years, died Wednesday in his
Lancaster home after a lengthy illness. He was 69.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Bonito was a lifelong resident of Western New York. He attended Nativity
of the Blessed Virgin Mary School and Lafayette High School.

Mr. Bonito joined the police force on Nov. 30, 1961, and retired on Oct. 3, 1994. He served in
the Army Military Police from November 1963 to November 1965.

He was a member of the Buffalo Police Department Erie Club and the International Police
Association, and was a charter member of the Italian American Police Association.

He also was a former president of the Buffalo Police Desk Lieutenant Association and a
member of the Pulaski Police Association, WNY Association of Retired Police, Police Benevolent Association and the Buffalo Bisons Booster Club.

Survivors include his wife, the former Christine M. Moore; two daughters, Diane L. Kuciel and Katherine R.; and two sisters, Mary Louise Leyendecker and Theresa Marie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a. m. Saturday in Resurrection Catholic Church, Union Road and Como Park Boulevard, Cheektowaga. Prayers will be said at 9:15 in Kloc Blossom Chapel, 4680 Clinton St., West Seneca.
Thomas MASTERSON "Shakey" Sr.

MASTERSON - Thomas, Lt., Sr. "Shakey" November 10, 2009. Beloved husband of Kathleen
(Beamish); dear father of Aileen, Cara and Thomas "T.J." (Jill Slisz) Masterson Jr.; son of the
late Edward and Helen (Hennigan) Masterson; brother of Edward (Sandy) Masterson, Helen
(late Frank) (late Anthony) Butler-Wagner and Maureen (Jerome) McIntee; also survived by
numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
